What is your role at Grampians Health?
Critical Care HMO (Junior Doctor)
Why is IDAHOBIT important to you?
IDAHOBIT is important to me as it helps highlight the issues that a lot of the LGBTQIA+ community faces within organisations and society, and provides a chance to learn both the basics of what it means to be LGBTIQA+ and ways support people and help them feel welcome.
What is one thing you would like others to know about the LGBTQIA+ community?
That trans people understand that mistakes/slip-ups often are made with names/pronouns. What would be appreciated if they do occur is a quick correction, i.e. if someone mistook my pronouns and realised, quickly saying something like “sorry, she”. Please don’t take it as judgment/anger if we correct as well; it is meant as simply a reminder.
In what ways do you see Grampians Health supporting the LGBTQIA+ community?
At an organisational level, it was really heartwarming to be received positively and to be supported in changing my name in the systems, and having pronouns on badges/IDs
Within departments, support for using my pronouns and affirming/validating of my identity has been very much appreciated.
