Grampians Health, in partnership with the Local Learning Employment Network (LLEN), has launched a comprehensive Work Experience Program for high school students. The program is designed to provide students with hands-on experience and insights into various careers within the healthcare sector and mould future healthcare professionals.

The Work Experience Program runs once per school term for one week at a time, offering students an opportunity to explore different career paths within the healthcare sector. The program aims to provide practical experience across four distinct streams — Allied Health, Corporate, Support Services, and Clinical — each hosting up to two students per placement. Some campuses may offer combined streams based on availability.

“We believe the comprehensive work experience program will offer a fantastic opportunity for students to explore different career paths in health and we are incredibly excited to offer this opportunity to students in our community,” said Claire Woods, Chief People Officer at Grampians Health.

“By providing hands-on experience across various streams, we hope to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals and give them a comprehensive understanding of the diverse roles within our sector.”

This ‘taster’ program is specifically designed for Year 10-12 students, allowing them to gain practical experience and a deeper understanding of the diverse roles within healthcare. Participants will have the chance to explore professions ranging from mental health, infection control, finance, support services, physiotherapy, social work, podiatry, radiology, and more.

The first program successfully launched in February with students in Ballarat. The program will be available across all Grampians Health sites, including Stawell, Horsham, Dimboola and Edenhope and will be aligned with school terms in the respective locations.

Applications for the program can be submitted online via the statewide portal managed by LLEN. Further details, including how to apply to the work experience program, can be found on the Grampians Health website.

“By investing in the education and development of students today, we are ensuring a stronger, more capable healthcare workforce for tomorrow.” said Ms Woods.
