Shooters from three states competed in a special Wimmera sporting event to raise an incredible $65,000 for Wimmera Cancer Centre.
The inaugural Shoot for Cancer event attracted shooters from NSW, SA and from across Victoria to Natimuk and District Field and Game and was highlighted by a fundraiser auction.
Club secretary Bart Turgoose said organisers had hoped to raise $25,000 for the weekend but had been blown away by the generosity of competitors and local businesses.
“We had over $70,000 worth of good donated and everyone just kept bidding because they knew it was supporting cancer,” he said.
Mr Turgoose also thanked auctioneer Robert Dolan for making sure the bids flowed.
Wimmera Cancer Centre manager Carmel O’Kane said she was amazed to receive such a large donation from a sporting event.
“We will certainly put the funds to good use and we are deeply grateful to all involved,” Ms O’Kane said
